In other cases, workers in lower-wage countries remotely monitor and control robots in shops or other sites in richer countries, earning modest monthly pay while providing a cross-border service.
Privacy becomes a central concern once humanoid robots, equipped with cameras and network connections, move into the home. Even when companies offer features like face blurring, geofencing of rooms or user-approved connection windows, the idea of unknown people seeing into private spaces and doing housework at a distance is unsettling to researchers and privacy advocates.

Robotics companies benefit from showcasing robots that appear highly capable and autonomous, helping secure investment and preorders while downplaying how much human labor is required today. They also gain from remote work models that let them hire operators in regions with lower wages.
Remote workers, on the other hand, can end up with repetitive, physically tiring and low-paid jobs that receive little recognition or visibility. Meanwhile, consumers and the wider public lose clarity about how autonomous these systems truly are, increasing the risk of overestimating the technology and underestimating privacy and labor risks.
