Claude comes to Azure with controls for enterprise use
Claude is now available in Microsoft Foundry, hosted on Azure and integrated with Microsoft's enterprise controls. For organizations already operating in this cloud, the main benefit is governance rather than an automatic promise of security.
Summary
Companies already operating on Azure can now use Claude models in the same cloud environment where they manage applications, identities, and access policies. Anthropic has made its model family generally available in Microsoft Foundry, hosted on Azure and running on NVIDIA GB300 Blackwell Ultra systems.
The launch brings Claude closer to teams that do not want to create separate infrastructure or move applications to another cloud. Organizations can integrate the model into processes they already control through the Microsoft ecosystem, keeping authentication, networking, credentials, monitoring, and billing in one place.
In practice
The security benefit comes mainly from operational integration. An organization can define who accesses the model, restrict network connections, manage credentials, and enforce runtime policies at the infrastructure level. NVIDIA's reference architecture includes controls for identity, networking, credentials, and agent behavior during execution.
This is particularly useful for banks, insurers, public bodies, and other organizations that have already built their compliance processes on Azure. Instead of adding a direct connection to another provider, they can consume Claude through a platform their security and IT teams already understand.
What we still don't know
Running Claude on Azure does not mean installing the model on a company's private servers. The service remains hosted on infrastructure managed by Microsoft, using Anthropic technology and NVIDIA hardware. It also does not make an application automatically compliant with GDPR or an organization's internal rules.
Before deployment, each company must confirm available regions, data residency and retention, log access, how prompts are handled, and which capabilities are included in the service. Claims of better performance and lower costs also come from the vendors and do not yet provide an independent comparison with Claude on AWS or other infrastructure.
Why it matters
- Companies already operating on Azure gain access to Claude without leaving the enterprise controls they already use.
- Security still depends on identity, network, data, and audit configuration; Azure does not remove that work.
- Microsoft can now offer an advanced alternative to OpenAI's models inside its own platform.
